Heavy Machinery is a Child's Playground

Our new home is situated in a new development and the area isn't even close to being half done. We live in a construction zone but luckily (and for now) most of the work is being done several buildings past us. In front of us just across the street, units will go up in the future but for now, it's a big, huge pit that turns into a small lake every time it rains... like it did today. At least for now, the hammering and noises aren't right on top of us. Another upside is that there's always something going on and the landscape is constantly changing, whether it be a build's progress or where the giant excavator's next parking spot is. The kids and I have gotten into the habit of walking around the neighborhood just to check things out. Zoey likes to explore around the newly dug dirt and piles of building supplies so in the evening after the builders have gone home, I often let her roam off-leash when we walk. The kids are just wide-eyed over the sheer size of the front loader's tires, the excavator's bucket and of course, all their climbing possibilities. They're not supposed to treat the heavy machinery like jungle gyms but they'd like to!
