We adopted her on Memorial Day weekend from the MSPCA. She's been a wonderful addition to our family. She's a year and a half old and was put up for adoption because the family she was with was moving and decided only to keep their dogs. We had been discussing for some time, adding another pet to our household since the kids are now old enough to assume some responsibility. The kids really wanted a ferret but our homeowner's association forbids exotic pets, ferrets included so a cat it was going to be.
We went to the MSPCA in Methuen, MA and there they had horses, sheep, pigs, goats, dogs, cats, birds, the biggest rabbits I ever saw and a few others. It is a really nice facility and reminded me a little bit of the Lollypop Farm in Fairport, NY. They had a lot of cats there and only a few kittens. The kittens they had were feral but we ruled those out since feral kittens and young kids don't mesh well. I didn't see Luna right away. What I did see however, were her eyes, like that of a cheshire cat glowing from the back of her cage. We had the opportunity to meet and socialize with her and one other in a private room. On paper, she sounded good so we took a chance with her and brought her home with us that day.
She's a true cat and not overly quirky. Her favorite spot is on the top of the chair on our patio. Her favorite toy is a fish/feather combo that dangles on a string that you can then stick glass so that it hangs and she can bat it. She loves to run after it too. She really likes Ana's battery operated Furr-Real pets and often chases after them when they're turned on. She sleeps a lot during the day, plays in the evening and demands attention in the middle of the night while we are trying to sleep! For such a light cat, she sounds like a heard of elephants when she runs. Best of all, she puts up with the kids but she also lets them know when she's had enough. She demands respect and she's teaching them well. What's also great about her is that she gets along with Zoey. Most times they just leave each other alone but once in a while, being the young cat she is, she'll try to instigate Zoey, now an old fart, into playing with her. I've only seen them play together once or twice since we've had Luna, but it's nice to know that they're tolerating each other and getting along.
